Prairieclover is a perennial, warm season, native legume.
Reproduction is from underground stems and seed.
Plants vary from 1 to 2 feet in height with one to ten stems
from a single base. The flowers are cone type growing at
the tip of each stem occurring from July to September. Purple
Prairieclover starts growing in the spring on the plains
and prairies of the United States.
The nutritious plant is high in protein value, eaten by
all livestock, and is easily overgrazed. Spring seeding
of Purple Prairieclover should be at a rate of 3 pure live
seed pounds per acre, at a depth of 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep
in a firm seedbed. |
