Remarks :

Growth 2 – 8 feet tall, flowers August to
September. Sometimes forms extensive
colonies, the leaves often fold lengthwise to
form a down-curving trough. This plant is a
desirable range plant that is palatable and
nutritious for livestock during the early stages
of growth. It also produces a heavy crop of
seed that is excellent wildlife food. The
tuberous root of this plant was eaten raw or
cooked by Native Americans. Adapted to low
moist areas, waste areas, roadsides, and rocky
prairies, often in sandy soils.
