Remarks :

Tall (40-80 in.), robust, glabrous perennial, growing in clumps. Early growth provides considerable forage for livestock; however, palatability declines rapidly with maturity. Deer will consume the young, green foliage. Bobwhite quail, turkey, prairie chickens, ground feeding songbirds, and small mammals eat the seeds. Adapted to open sandy or gravelly sites, frequent in sand dunes.
