Remarks :

Strongly rhizomatous grass that characterizes
saline and alkaline sites. The leaves are <4 in.
long, numerous along the stem. This grass has
both male and female plants growing
separately, the seed heads are identical. The
female florets are usually formed below the
leaf apex whereas the male florets tend to be
borne more terminally. During the dormant
season this grass becomes straw-colored.
Adapted to margins along saline lakes, playas,
ponds, and waterways on saline and alkaline
soils.
