This plant is consumed by wildlife and livestock in the early stages of growth. The Great Plains Indians brewed tea from the leaves and flowers of this plant, they also used a decoction of leaves and stems to treat poison ivy and rattlesnake bites. Adapted to dry prairies, open waste ground, and roadsides.
