Remarks :

Other common names, "Shinoak" and "Sand shinnery oak". Growth form is a low deciduous shrub, 3 to 5 feet. Quercus species hybridize frequently, providing large variations in plant size and shape of leaves. There are 39 species with many varieties of oak in Texas. Shinoak is toxic to livestock. Most poisoning occurs in the spring when livestock consume large amounts of young leaves, buds, stems, and/or flowers. The toxins in oak are complex compounds called gallotannins. Adapted to the sandy soils of the Texas Panhandle.
