Remarks :

Other common names, "Tesajo cactus", "Pencil cholla", "Rat-tail cactus" and "Slender-stem cactus". This is a thicket forming cactus that stands about 1 to 6 ½ ft. tall. The multiple stems are cylindrical in shape and vary in shades of green. Flowers July to August. The red berries are eaten by deer, quail, turkey and other small mammals. Deer will also eat the succulent new growth. Tasajillo is of no use to livestock or humans. The spines stick into the flesh and are difficult to remove.
