Remarks :

Other common names, "Fragrant Sumac", "Aromatic
Sumac", "Polecat-bush", and "Squaw-bush". An
offensive-scented, deciduous shrub with slender,
spreading , crooked branches, attaining a height of 8
feet. The yellowish-green flowers appear March to
April, the reddish drupe (fruit) matures August to
September. The fruit is eaten by 25 species of birds,
especially quail, grouse, prairie chicken, sagehen, and
pheasant. It is browsed by deer, only slightly used by
cattle. This heat and drought tolerant shrub is adapted
to gravelly slopes and plains, prefers limestone outcrops.
